Students and lenders discussing questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about how Lendapp works.

Is this a real lending website?

No. Lendapp is an academic prototype for research only. No real investments, loans, or personal applications are processed on this site.

How do the simulated loans work?

All amounts, interest rates and repayments shown are illustrative only. They are based on simple assumptions to help you think about costs, risk and affordability and not to provide offers or advice.

What kinds of costs could a Lendapp style loan cover?

The examples usually combine tuition fees with essential living costs such as rent, bills, food, transport and basic study materials, to show a realistic total study budget.

What are the risks shown in these examples??

The examples hint at typical P2P lending risks, such as a borrower not repaying on time, income changing, or costs being higher than expected, but they do not capture every real‑world risk.

When would repayments start in these examples?

The prototype focuses on short-term loans. Repayments are shown across a 1 - 12 month period, which may include both late study and early work, to help you see how payments might fit into a monthly budget.

How are interest rates chosen for the examples?

Interest rates in the calculators are simple, non‑compounding interest, so total interest is proportional to how long you borrow, not just the rate adjustable inputs. The goal is to let you see how different rates change the total cost of borrowing and the monthly repayment.

What is the difference between the student and lender pages?

The student page focuses on what a combined tuition and living costs loan might feel like to borrow and repay. The lender page focuses on how any investment might perform in terms of risk, return and impact.

Does Lendapp check my credit score or use my bank data?

No. The prototype does not connect to bank accounts, credit bureaus or open banking tools. Any data you enter in the explorers stays in your browser session for demonstration only and are only used to generate on‑screen examples; they are not used to make decisions about you.

Can I use these examples to choose a real loan?

No. The examples are too simple to use for real decisions. They are designed to help you prepare questions and understand trade-offs before you speak to universities, scholarship providers or regulated lenders.

Who should I talk to about real funding options?

For real finance decisions, contact your university admissions funding team, scholarship organisations, or regulated financial institutions in your country. They can explain eligibility, risks and your legal rights.

Can I give feedback on Lendapp?

If you are taking part in the research project, please share your feedback with the research team using the contact details on the Contact page. Your comments help improve future versions of the prototype.
